This is the start of a full backpiece based on the idea of the ever-suffering Mother. Mom’s get a lot of credit, somehow it never seems to be enough though. Starting at conception, the mother is affected by their child in ways that, well, only a mother could understand.

This piece is loosely based on the idea of the Virgin Mary, Ever-Suffering. The crown and collar of thorns, and the blind all-seeing eye in the sacred heart (not-shown) convey the idea of a mother’s elevated role and responsibility. The love she feels for her child will be the wellspring of pride and the source of her greatest pain, as any mother worth their salt already knows.
