Samurai Demon Tattoo

Still need to finish the dragon and add background on this super rad piece!

Brett is a warrior by nature and a wrestler by training. He wanted something to represent his spirit in the gym and celebrate warrior culture. The best thing we could come up with is the strength of a dragon and the spirit of a samurai. This Work-In-Progress piece has been completed over a couple of sessions (because it’s enormous!) so the red in the mask is healed and everything else is fresh. We’ll be posting a finished shot once it’s done so you can see the brightness of the yellows. We’ll also spend a couple of hours working on the teeth and horns before building a background to really bring this piece to life!

I am... Iron Man?

Mechanical tattoos (often wrongly referred to as biomechanical) are pretty cool for gearheads. When you spend so much time working on and enjoying these machines that really becomes a part of you over time. Whether it’s being a biker, racing cars, or like this guy, you own your own garage, these objects can start to find themselves developing a personality in your mind.

Think it’s weird? How many of us don’t remember getting their first car and the sense of freedom to gave us? Didn’t it represent the beginning of adulthood and autonomy for so many of us? Bet you named it. Some old clunker sitting out in the driveway (or front yard), just waiting to take you on your next adventure. Well, some of us never got over that feeling. Judging by the amount of money spent on motorsports each year, it’s safe to say we’re in good company!

So if you’ve ever busted a few knuckles turning wrenches for your family, friends, or just your own needs, swing by Lighthouse Tattoo and celebrate your status as a gearhead with a little ink!

Memorial Tattoo Portrait

We’ve all lost someone. It’s our belief that one of the very best ways to honor the memory of that person is by carrying a likeness of them with you forever. A photo in your wallet pales by comparison and so many other things just don’t seem personal enough to satisfy the intense sense of loss the untimely passing of a loved one can leave you feeling. We sincerely hope something like a portrait tattoo can offer a small semblance of closure to someone who has experienced such great pain.

Fabian’s sister was killed in a car accident a few years ago. Having carried the weight of that loss for so long, he finally decided to break down and get the memorial portrait tattoo he’d wanted. Lighthouse Tattoo is honored to be the establishment he chose.

Whenever we’re faced with doing a memorial tattoo, we understand that the photo reference that is available might not be ideal, as was the case with this portrait. Our resident realism artist, Will, did a great job capturing her likeness and helping realize Fabian’s dream of having a beautiful reminder of his beloved sister to carry with him for the rest of his life.

Simple Bird Tattoo

Sometimes the simplest things can be the most sublime. Straightforward lines and bold shading coupled with a petite frame can yield a delicate complement to ones’ natural beauty. This is frequently the goal of tattooing, throughout antiquity to modern times, to complement the form of the canvas. Expertly applied by Matt Steele, we expect to see more of this style of beautiful artwork in the near future!

Just in Time for the Pandemic...

This plague doctor mask couldn’t be more appropriate. With the vitriol spewed forth by the media and a political machine so dysfunctional I’d (almost) rather be in Canada, I think we all feel like we’ve been transported to the dark ages. At once menacing and beautiful, with ornamental designs and the sweet smell of fresh flowers to cover the scent of death, Matt Steele has once again managed to flex his design muscles with this impressive tattoo! Call Lighthouse Tattoo for all your pandemic-era tattoo needs (We’ve had all our shots!)

Anduril Tattoo

Anduril, Sauron-Slayer, the broken inheritance of the King Aragorn. This piece was performed by Matt Steele a couple of weeks ago. Are you a LOTR fan? Just love the fantasy genre in general? Come on down to Lighthouse Tattoo or click the Set and Appointment tab to schedule your next tattoo with up-and-coming young artist Matt Steele!

A Word on Booking for Tax Refund Season

While November is only just now upon us, we need to take some time to remind folks of the busiest time of year for tattoo shops- Tax Refund Season! Tax refunds are considered tattoo funds for so many people each year, the average tattoo shop will almost double the number of clients it usually serves. Lighthouse Tattoo doesn’t have the capacity to do that, we are simply too busy.

For instance: Will, our leader and resident realism artist is currently already booking for February. He is working seven days a week, frequently tackling two tattoos per day (he usually only does one), to try and prevent his schedule from getting so booked out that late-comers can’t get tattooed when they want. Unfortunately, even though Will had put a stop to booking more than three months out, he has such a large clientele that it’s become impossible to stick to the 3 months-only program. What this means is that new clients will not be served until he finishes some of the work he’s taken on with his existing clientele.

In short, if you want to get tattooed when your tax refund comes in, you will need to book with Will within the next two weeks! After November 15th, Will will no longer be accepting new clients until he frees up some space by completing current work.

Similarly, if you wait to schedule something with Diamond Dave; Deuce; or Matt Steele until you have the cash-in-hand, you will likely be in for a protracted wait time.

While we have other artists on hand, they are young in this business and their skills may be limited such that they won’t be allowed to tattoo you due to the complexity of the work you want done. Small, simple stuff will be the order of the day for any walk-ins or short-notice appointments during tax refund season, roughly Feb 10th to the end of March (most people who know they are getting a refund tend to file early, thus they get their refund on the early side.)

A Special Offer from Will!

Will Wood, our illustrious, enigmatic, and frequently enraged benefactor has seen fit to offer this Pennywise the Clown tattoo for a special low price. Please fill out our ‘Set an Appointment’ form if you are interested. priority will be given to previous clientele and those with flexible schedules. Also, no cover-ups will be considered for this piece. Thank you for your time and participation and good luck! Some Shots form our Universal Studios Trip

In September of 2021, Lighthouse Tattoo went to Universal Studios. Spending time together outside of work is important to us, it helps keep us motivated to help out and improve each other. Some of the young faces you might not recognize are Will and Crystal’s youngest daughter Abby, their sons Jacob and Garrett, and the two little boys are Deuce’s sons Grayson and Oliver (yes, he’s a DC Comics nerd).

We rode all the rides, swam to our hearts content, drank some out-of-this-world-quality milkshakes at a chocolate emporium loosely modeled after Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory, sang karaoke till the wee hours and on at least one occasion, got roaring drunk together. We also visited the impressive Halloween Horror Nights evening attraction with 10 haunted houses and we all agreed that the BeetleJuice house was the best one.

Will taught the kids how to dive to the bottom of the pool; Deuce got into a fight with a vending machine; Dave sang Ring of Fire for the ladies; the boys all raced climbing up the rock climbing walls littered throughout the parks; and in all, we had a great time.

That being said, we’ll probably never get to take a vacation like that all together again, and we’d like to take this time to thank all of our loyal clients for their patience so we could enjoy this special time together, it’s truly something none of us will ever forget!

Tiny Chandelier

Some folks go ahead and call it an underboob tattoo. Like the mighty lower back tattoo, aptly nicknamed the tramp stamp, this tattoo has a nickname: The Chandelier. Way to class it up ladies! This little banger was done by Deuce a couple months ago.

Quick Skull Action!

If Will’s said it once, he’s said it a thousand times: If I could only ever do on type of tattoo for the rest of my life, it would be skulls. At Lighthouse Tattoo, we love a good head job (that’s what we call skull’s here, get yer mind outta tha gutter!) and we’re always game to tackle them. in fact, we did a little research and found out that a skull is the most likely kind of tattoo to be served as a walk-in (infinity symbols were least likely, go figure). This bad boy is super dark because it’s fresh and the client’s skin got pretty red, but once it’s healed it’s going to be a doozy!

If you like skull tattoos and need one in a pinch, Lighthouse Tattoo is the place for you! Open seven days a week from noon to 10pm, you can schedule an appointment by visiting the shop; filling out the form on this website RE: Set an Appointment; or calling at 615 784-4500 between the hours of noon and 10pm central time! We hope to hear from you soon!

A Word on Trash Talk

It’s come to our attention over the last month that there has been an uptick in trash talk about us. One young lady went into another shop to purchase jewelry and upon finding out who did her piercing, was told that it was done wrong, that she would need to take it out; let it heal; an have it re-pierced by them, all for a fee. She came by to let us see it and nothing was wrong with the piercing (we have photos), they apparently just didn’t have the jewelry she wanted. After purchasing her jewelry and having it switched out, she left happy.

Another incident occurred when a woman, who had already paid for her tattoo in full (a couple of small tattoos actually) said ‘a friend’ of hers who works in a shop in Nashville told her she was being ‘price gouged’. First of all, how do you price gouge someone for a luxury item like a tattoo? Secondly, the two small tattoos took about an hour an twenty minutes to perform and cost $140, consistent with our $100 per hour rate on tattoos that don’t fall into our 5-hour ‘special’ category. She came into the shop asking why it was going to cost so much and almost found herself being asked to leave for her trouble.

Two things: Simply put, if you are quoted a price at a tattoo shop that is too high for your tastes, leave. You can always find someone cheaper and Lighthouse Tattoo is NOT in the business of price matching. Which brings us to our second point: While you can always find someone cheaper, BETTER is another story. Which explains all the trash talk.

You know why you never see Usain Bolt, the world’s fastest man, talking about how slow everyone else is? He doesn’t complain about the fit of his shoes; the weather; the propensity for cheating; he just runs faster that everyone else, smiles, and takes his gold medals home. You see, Usain Bolt doesn’t need to talk trash about his competition to make himself feel better, because he IS better, and he knows it. We feel the same way.

Now, please don’t get our confidence confused with cockiness. We have a good relationship with the artists at Bright Ideas, they do great work, and we don’t want people going in there saying that we’re talking about them, we’re not. Like I said, we consider those folks our friends, we like what they do. We also maintain a neutral position about that other shop in town, Tri-Star Tattoos. We also expect them to say that they’re the best, if you don’t honestly believe that, or aren’t working diligently to obtain that goal, you are definitely in the wrong line of work. We don’t know them, but we certainly don’t have a problem with them, and neither of these shops appear to be the ones who are trash talking. So good on them, y’all are invited to our Halloween party on the 16th BTW!

The next time you go into a shop and they start saying bad things about their competition, ask them to show you what they’re talking about, and not just more trash talk, ask to see photos of the work they’ve done. We’re going to bet another shop won’t be willing to show you our work, because they know you’ll leave and come here. That’s the facts.

Besides, who wants to be around all that negativity in the first place?

If you want the best tattoos Lebanon and Middle Tennessee have to offer, at a fair price, with excellent customer service, a fun, clean atmosphere, and none of the BS that is so rife in this industry, you definitely want to put Lighthouse Tattoo on your list of places to visit.

No Way Home for this Spider-Man!

This brightly-bedazzled wall-crawler was freshly inked on our very own Matt Steele by our very own Will Wood (yes, Will still does color, contrary to popular belief!)

Comics collectors and aficionados the world over have loved Spider-Man for decades. One of the biggest properties in the Marvel Universe, Mr. Parker’s mantra of ‘With great power comes great responsibilities’ rings true with so many of his fans. His human vulnerability (he can’t fly and he isn’t bulletproof); his motivation (the death of his beloved Uncle Ben); his loving support system (Aunt May and MJ, sometimes Flash, sometimes J. Jonah Jameson); and his awesome rogues gallery of villains (including Venom; Doctor Octopus; The Lizard; Mysterio; Morbius; Electro; and sometimes J. Jonah Jameson) serve as a compelling serial storyline that has lasted for, yes, decades.

So, if you or a friend love comics like we do, swing by Lighthouse Tattoo for you next Spectacular tattoo! Excelsior!

Realistic Eye Tattoo

Here’s the healed result of a single session with Will: A perfectly healed, realistic human eye on a bicep! This baby is so large it absolutely screams at you from across the room. This is the first session of a sleeve that includes a couple of cover-ups, proof that there’s hope yet for many of those who carry work they aren’t (or are no longer) happy with!

It's Party Time!!!

Lighthouse Tattoo will be hosting our annual Halloween party tonight. As such, we will be closing at 5pm. For our partygoers, the parking lot will also be closed, please park across the street. We’ve found it’s much more convenient and safer than trying to cram into the lot first. We will also have burn barrels in the parking lot to warm up our smokers and we will not be held liable for any damages to vehicles that are parked in the lot because some knucklehead can’t follow simple instructions. Thank you.
